Transcend Australia (National)

     

Transcend’s purpose is to support, affirm and celebrate the lives of trans and gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) children and their families and carers. Transcend aims to help young TGDNB lives flourish by providing opportunities for peer and family support, the development and dissemination of information and resources, and advocating for change to services and systems.

Parents of Gender Diverse Children (National)

     

A national peer support organisation based in Australia for parents of trans and gender diverse children. They have groups in most states and people based across the country to help parents out.

Qlife (National)

     

QLife provides anonymous and free LGBTI peer support and referral for people in Australia wanting to talk about sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships. Their services are for LGBTI individuals, their friends and families, and health professionals in Australia.

PFLAG (National)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. They are a volunteer run, non-profit organisation that have multiple regional groups across Australia, providing a support system for families and friends of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), along with education and advocacy in the community.

TransFolk of WA (WA)

     

A peer support service for transgender people and their loved ones in Western Australia. They hold support groups for parents and guardians and a monthly in-person support group for Under 18s.

Freedom Centre (WA)

     

A safe space to support young people under 26 with diverse sexuality, gender, and sex. The Freedom Centre runs under a peer support model, meaning it is run for young people, by young people. They run drop-in and online sessions, workshops, and training. They also run parent support groups.

PFLAG Perth (WA)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. They are a volunteer run, non-profit organisation in Western Australia, providing a support system for families and friends of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), along with education and advocacy in the community.

The Gender Centre, Sydney (NSW)

     

The Gender Centre is committed to developing and providing services and activities, which enhance the ability of transgender, gender diverse and gender exploring people make informed choices. Offers services such as information, counselling, family support, speech pathology, housing support and school support. Check out their events calendar for details of support groups for parents, and gender diverse young people and adults.

PFLAG Sydney (NSW)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays. They are a non-profit voluntary organisation whose members have a common goal of keeping families together. PFLAG Sydney supports parents of gender diverse children.

Queer Family – Support for parents (NSW)

Queer Family is a community-based peer-led organisation in Mullumbimby, NSW. Queer Family host a range of events for LGBTQ+ children, young people and adults. Sprouts is an exciting new program designed especially for kids aged 8-12 who are Queer or Questioning, along with their parents and carers. Sprouts is a unique and vibrant space where LGBTQ+ kidlets and their families can come together, connect, and celebrate their identities in a supportive and affirming environment. Sprouts is a monthly Saturday meetup full of fun and engaging activities.

Queerspace (VIC)

     

The Village is a 7-week online program for parents of gender diverse and gender non-conforming children. This program is for parents who wish to share and talk through experiences and anxieties they may be feeling. The group discusses various topics each week facilitated by a queerspace host and a queerspace counsellor.

Switchboard (VIC)

     

Switchboard provides peer-driven support services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+) people, their families, allies and communities. They have a range of different programs offering peer-to-peer support in areas including gender and sexuality, diverse relationships, suicide prevention, family violence support, anti-racism advocacy, and social inclusion for older LGBTI community.

Rainbow Door (VIC)

     

Rainbow Door is a free specialist LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Gender Diverse, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, BrotherBoys, SisterGirls) helpline providing information, support, and referral to all LGBTIQA+ Victorians, their friends and family.

Transfamily (VIC)

     

A peer support group for parents, siblings, extended family and friends of a trans and gender diverse person in Victoria.

Alphabet Soup (VIC)

     

"Alphabet Soup" is a safe meeting place. Whether you might be LGBTIQ, or not certain where you fit, you will probably find someone to talk to. There is a cafe meet up in Heidelberg, a pub dinner meet up in Brunswick and a virtual meet up online twice each month. The group is open for friends, family partners, members and helpers of the LGBTIQA+ community. The café, dinner and online space are non-judgmental and sociable environments where you can feel free to be yourself. The only stipulation is you leave any prejudice at home.

PFLAG Brisbane (QLD)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays. PFLAG Brisbane supports the LGBTI+ community by keeping families together and supporting the community through education and understanding. They hold regular events and support meetings for parents.

Open Doors (QLD) 

     

Open Doors Youth Service provides support to young people with diverse genders, bodies and sexualities and their families. They support young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl or Brotherboy (LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl & Brotherboy) aged 12-24 across South East Queensland. Services provided include individual case management, group support, referrals to other services, and group support for families and caregivers. 

Rainbow Directory (SA)

     

The Rainbow Directory SA includes services, organisations, groups and activities that are for, or inclusive of, LGBTIQA+ communities.

Gender Connect Country (SA)

     

A free service for those living in country South Australia who have questions about being, or supporting those, who identify as transgender, gender diverse or gender questioning. They provide confidential support via phone or webchat from peer workers with lived experience of gender diversity.

PFLAG Tasmania (TAS)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. They are a volunteer run, non-profit organisation in Tasmania, providing a support system for families and friends of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), along with education and advocacy in the community.

Working it Out (TAS)

     

Tasmania’s sexuality, gender and intersex support and education service. Provides in person and online support for parents and young people through support sessions and community events.

PFLAG Canberra (ACT)

     

PFLAG stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. They are a volunteer run, non-profit organisation in the ACT, providing a support system for families and friends of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI), along with education and advocacy in the community.

A Gender Agenda – Gender Pathways Service,  Canberra (ACT)

     

A Gender Agenda work with, and on behalf of, intersex, trans and gender diverse people, their friends, families and allies in Canberra and the surrounding region. Through education, advocacy, peer support and professional networks, they connect people to each other.
