Summary: This French work by a group of experts (primarily paediatric endocrinologists) seeks to create a best-practice recommendation document for health care providers working with transgender youth. A consensus was reached on a range of recommendations that require input from a multi-disciplinary team.
The team of experts support the use of gender-affirming hormone therapies in addition to non-hormonal support such as vitamin and mineral supplements, bone mass density monitoring, supporting sexual health, social support (e.g. peer support groups, name changes), voice and communication therapy and dermatological treatment. The document also outlines safety recommendations related to concealing secondary sexual characteristics (e.g. binding, tucking).
The authors finish by outlining the important of handover of care from paediatric to adult services to reduce the risk of discontinuation of care.
